Siddhartha Gautama or Gautama Buddha was born about 2,600 years ago in Lumbini near the border of Nepal and India. He was born a prince, but as he grew up, he inclined towards spirituality. In search of spirituality, he went into deep meditation, where he realized the nature of mind. He was titled with Buddha.
Siddhartha was a monk, mendicant, sage, philosopher, teacher and religious leader on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. According to Buddhist tradition, he obtained his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, gave his first sermon in Sarnath, and died in Kushinagar.
Buddha always encouraged his students to question and confirm his teachings through their own experiences. His teachings are still influential and inspirational to the world.
