Jack Ma originally Ma Yun, is a Chinese business magnate and the co-founder of Alibaba Group, one of the world’s largest e-commerce businesses. He is listed as one of the world’s most powerful people by Forbes.
Ma is born on September 10, 1964, in Hangzhou, located in the southeastern part of China. He grew up poor and struggled a lot during his early life. After his education he got rejected by several companies for a job. In 1994, he influenced by the boom of the internet and started his first company, Hangzhou Haibo Translation Agency.
Ma got his initial success in 1995 when he founded China Pages, which was one of China’s first Internet companies. Later he got a chance to head an information technology company backed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. However, he realized that if he continued working with the government, he would miss out huge economic opportunities that the Internet was bringing. In 1999, he quit and returned to Hangzhou and founded Alibaba.
Today Alibaba counts in one of the most valuable technology companies in the world. From being a poor man living in difficulties to China’s richest man, Jack Ma is a true rags-to-riches story.
